Beaconsfield is older and greener than the new Cardinia estates. The village and the surrounding streets are full of established brick and weatherboard homes shaded by mature gums and oaks. Beautiful to live in, hard on a roof. That heavy tree canopy keeps roofs damp and shaded, so concrete tile roofs here grow thick moss and lichen, often the worst we see in the shire. Brick and weatherboard, not just render.

Unlike the render-dominated new estates, Beaconsfield has a lot of older brick and painted weatherboard. Both need a careful soft wash, painted weatherboard in particular will lift and flake if anyone attacks it with high pressure. We use low pressure and a detergent that kills the mould without stripping paint, then a gentle rinse, so the finish lasts.

Beaconsfield blocks tend to be bigger than the Officer or Pakenham estate lots, which means longer driveways and more paving to clean. Many are older plain concrete that has greyed and grown a mould line over the years, and a driveway clean brings them back dramatically.
